One of the best ways to create balance in our lives is to up-level our self-care. And that doesn't always mean adding something to our to-do lists. It's so much more than manicures and pedicures.
There are four areas of self-care for us to consider: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
- Physical self-care: Are you getting enough sleep, moving your body, getting good nutrition, properly hydrated?
- Emotional self-care: Are you addressing the care and feeding of your heart? Its important to have friendships and relationships that include heart to heart conversations that support you. Sometimes reach out to a counselor or therapist when needed. Keep a journal.
- Spiritual Self-care: How we connect with the divine. Prayer and meditation. Being in nature. Service/Volunteer work.
- Mental Self-care: Stretching ourselves to learn something new. Feeding ourselves intellectually.
Self-care is self-preservation. It takes you from survival to thriving and well-being. It's not selfish to take exquisite care of ourselves. Actually everyone benefits when we're happy and feel good. We can give from our overflow.
This week is "Random Acts of Kindness" week and Valentine's Day.
Both of these themes invite us to open our hearts. Be kind. Share your love. Spread your joy. I invite you to do something loving this week for yourself first. Give from your overflow.
This is what balance looks like!
