Hello Friends!
Three weeks ago, I tripped on a sidewalk and went flying down onto my right hand and fractured my wrist. It’s crazy how quickly these things happen! I’m sidelined with my hand in a splint and unable to work til early November? It’s still hard to believe and quite the challenge to slow way down and shift gears into “receiving mode” when I’m so used to being ultra-independent and being the giver. Someone said to me early on, something along the lines of “everything happens for a reason.” Well I’m still not sure about that and have been grappling with maybe accidents just happen. Life sucks sometimes. Bad things can happen to any of us. I love Kate Bowler, teacher at Duke Divinity School, podcaster and best selling author of “Everything Happens.” She got my attention by purposely removing “for a reason” and teaches life isn’t always bright and shiny. More importantly, we don’t need to deny, push down or explain away our disappointment and suffering. That’s a big one for me and probably a challenge for other eternal optimists out there as well. |
