Hope you’re staying COOL wherever you are!
We’re having a HEATWAVE here at the Jersey Shore and elsewhere around the world it’s even hotter. Is it just me or doesn’t everything seem a little hotter & harder these days? It seems more challenging and harder than ever to keep an even keel.
The above vintage photo of exercise class in Wildwood, NJ (circa 1940’s) inspires me! Lots has changed since then (fashion for sure) but lots has stayed the same- our need to move, be outside in nature, stay active, be in community, and to keep stretching our minds and bodies is still #1.
Exciting news 🧘♂️ We’re celebrating 20 years of beach yoga in Bay Head. It was a lucky day back in 2002 while visiting the Hamptons to see a flyer for beach yoga. I instantly knew YOGA ON THE BEACH was a marriage made in HEAVEN! It didn’t take long to envision bringing this back to the Jersey shore and it’s been a delight to promote and share YOGA in such a beautiful environment. ☀️We show up with the ocean as our backdrop. Each day is different as the temperatures and winds fluctuate. In community, we embrace this ancient practice which rewards our minds and bodies with balance, strength, flexibility, alertness and calm. It’s hard to put into words all that yoga has given and taught me.
It's my favorite way to start the day - I ❤️ Beach Yoga!
We begin with eyes closed as the instructor invites us to set an intention for our practice. My go-to intention is often PEACE or CALM but lately I’m reaching for EQUANIMITY. If you look it up in the dictionary or google it, you’ll find:
In the words of the Dalai Lama… “With equanimity you can deal with situations with calm and reason while keeping your inner happiness.”
And isn’t that what we all want and need more of?
🙏 I invite you to discover a ritual for yourself - your very own ritual that helps you reconnect and find equanimity.
One final wish - Sunshine Kate ends class every Sunday sharing the following words…
PEACE TO YOU
PEACE TO ME
PEACE TO THE WORLD
PEACE TO ALL THE THINGS WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER
Stay cool, keep calm and carry on!
