Maybe that song was written back in the 20th century but those words can still inspire and remind us what summertime is all about! Summer invites us to downshift. Relax. Chill out. Play. Have fun. Slow down. Take it easy. And for many who are living life in the fast lane, going a million miles an hour, this idea is met with resistance and is a huge challenge. It sure is for me!
Here's a simple easy practice for you which takes less than a minute and can bring BIG benefits...
- Start your morning off first thing with thinking of two or three things that you are looking forward to that day.
- Research shows that having things that we look forward to boosts positive emotions and helps build resilience.
- So put things on your calendar that excite you and that you look forward to.
- Plan an adventure.
- Schedule a massage.
- Plan quality time with family/friends.
Quality time = Being all there. That's what really makes us happy and fulfilled. Turns out that experiences trump things! Material things make us happy for a moment and then we want more. Experiences stay with us and we have memories that last forever.
So, get out there and have a really FUN summer. Seize the day! Plan something you've been dreaming of. Make memories and enjoy each moment!!!
